Hello to all

I have a 1990 Jeep Cherokee Inline 6.

I have removed the oil pan

Removed the rear main bearing cap

Loosened all of the bearing caps and I still cannot budge the rear main oil seal.

Question 1. I loosened the cranshaft caps..Shouldn't the cranshaft fall slighlty to allow some room to manuver.

Question 2. Does anyone have experience with a better way to remove a stubborn rear main seal.

Please Help[addsig]

The way I always take them out is to find a small round punch about the same diameter as the end of the top half of the seal and tap on one end and spin it out of the seat. A couple of times I´ve had to tap it pretty good, but it has always moved before disfiguring alot. If it doesn´t budge try a small nail or pointed punch between the seal and the block tap, tap, tap to try and seperate it from the block at least a little on one end. Sometimes when installers get a little carried away with the gasket sealer it can cause problems. If tapping on one end doesn´t get it, try the other end, but if one end becomes to disfigured, it will only come out on the disfigured end.[addsig]
