rear end help

The 12 bolt is a c-clip axle but fairly strong. If you can find one with disc brakes then the c-clips aren't much of an issue and yes the 2500s do come in a 6 lug and it's a 14 bolt with a smaller ring gear than the full float 14 bolt which is 8 lug.

www.ifsja.org. They have ALL the FSJ answers. Was your rear an AMC 20? Just wondering, because that is what my 83' J10 has in the rear and Dana 44 front. I don't understand why a Dana 44 out of a FS Cherokee won't fit in your truck. As far as I know they are the same width. Or do you want something other than a Dana 44?

Yeah it was a d20 and a dana 44 would be fine. I've been told they weren't wide enough. I'm going to the pick a part yard tomorrow. Since it's my daily driver I'm hoping to find a newer chevy 1500 or 2500 with disc brakes and hopfully with good gears. I'll let you all know what I find.

The FSJ trucks are wider (by about 9") than the GWs and others. The Wide Track Cherokee comes close (but still @ 5" narrower) The front of the WT is the same width as the pickup.

Pre '80 rigs are offset rear axle (to the passenger's side) and '80 and newer are centered

Well I got a rear end today. I also lucked out and the pick a part yard was 1/2 off this weekend. So I got a rear end from a 1996 suburban with 3.73 gears for $100.00 complete hub to hub. That is if I did my math right and didn't miss count  I was told some came with factory lockers. How would you tell if it did? I've always messed with 8" and 9" rear ends. So pulling off the rear cover is all new to me.

You would see a barrel shaped piece in the middle instead of the spider gears... The z71 model is the one that came with the lockers that started in 91 and up. Before 91 it was a factory option but didn't have a special model that came with them. The z71 also doesn't lock up both sides until 2500 rpms...

Any other Chevy questions u can message me. My first car was a Chevy and have had a Chevy my whole life. I have a Corvette motor in my Jaguar...
