Rear brake hose??

Hi,

Yes the rear brake line comes to the rear axle where it connects to a splitting valve located on the driver's side of the rear axle tube. There are then two separate lines that run to either wheel cylinder.

I was just wondering, I did not look as if there was a way to get a wrench on that line where it goes into that metal valve housing. I guess I need to look at mine closer.
Thanks Nick.

That metal junction is part of the hose, and the two hard lines that parallel the axle tubes thread into it. Pull the two hard lines and the hose and splitter come off as one piece, after removing the bolt holding it to the axle housing.
Look at the end of this braided steel hose:

Hmmm.... That's wierd. I guess I'll have to take another look at mine, I'm almost positive the splitting block is separate from the rest of the lines :?

Well mine would have to be diferent. I looked and I can't seem to see any fastener recessed or not that holds that splitter valve on top of the axle housing and there sure doesn't appear to be any nut style fitting on the rubber hose leading into it. Nick, is yours the same as this?

Well, closer inspection has shown that my splitter block is attached to the end of the rubber hose. My rubber hose does however unscrew from this little bracket mounted to the Jeep's frame.

because I feel this is hard to visualize, I've included some quick photos I took under the Jeep just now. You'll notice I haven't gotten around to extending the rubber line or remounting it, as I haven't been driving the Cherokee for a while, since I'm working on it.

[EDIT] forgot to answer your question :P. Mine DID have a bolt fastening it to the axle tube. This is currently NOT in place (bolt removed) [/EDIT]

You can see in XJNick's pics on the axle tube where the junction block used to be secured to the axle tube.

Now I see (says the blind man). I just went back under my rig and realized my error. Evidently, the same nut which houses my axle vent line, that a rubber vent line clamps onto, doubles as the attachment bolt somehow to this splitter valve. My guess is when I unbolt that nut that surrounds the vent hole that the whole assembly will come off of the axle housing. At least now I can order my YJ brake line and swap it out.
Thanks guys!!

PS. Nick, what are you up to under your rig?? :?:
