Re-wired..?

what needs to be re-wired?
under the hood, under the dash or both.

Assuming your wiring is pretty hacked and aged poorly, I would look to replace everything with a pre-wired harness from painless or another manufacturer, or see if I can source a factory original harness that is pretty much un-molested.

if you only need under hood or under dash, I would just look for a good condition unsed harness and make any needed repairs and go with that.

I recently re-wired a CJ (installed a efi 4.0 so it was a little more involved) but I sourced a complete harness, under dash and engine bay, used the new to me harness and re-wired under the hood mating it to the 4.0 harness and ecm.

Probably both! Electrical tape must have been on sale the day they rebuilt "Wilma". Cause its everywhere!! Even the starter solenoid... But I would be happy with making her mech sound. So I would rather do the engine bay first.

When I bought my "78 CJ5 in 1998 I went thru every circuit & fixed what ever didn't work...replaced overly spliced or "sloppy wiring". It took a lot of time, but I was able to save most of the original wiring & milked 12 years out of what was there. This year since I'm replacing the body I put a Painless kit in.All the wiring, connecters & terminals came with the kit for about $500.00. The Painless kit is great & the instructions are very good. They even use the same color codes as factory. So basically what I'm saying is if you're comfortable working out electrical problems you might be able to get yours straightened out & at least get a few years out of it,but if you've got the cash & plan on keeping the Jeep,it may be worth going all new.
Hope that rambling tale helps.....let us know what you end up doing.

what style fuse panel do you have on the harness flat board with glass fuses or the plastic box with the newer style fuses
I sent you a pm, I may be able to help you
