Radius arms?

Got any opinions about converting the front of an XJ to a radius arm setup? How about a writeup on doing a homemade radius arm setup? Who makes an aftermarket kit that I could copy....errr, I mean buy?

Radius arms seem to be the most common setup for long arm kits. They are simple and great for the guy who wants to run a set of 33's and hit the trail but a setup where the upper arm(s) have their own attachment point at the frame (true 4 or 3 link) will do a better job of maintaining correct caster throughout the range of articulation and for someone who plans on running huge tires and flexing hard that could be a factor because it means less stress on the axle.

I thought that worth mentioning because I know your goal is complete insanity

Awww man, I accomplished that years ago.

I want to make it big(for an XJ anyway), like maybe 36" TSLs. I'm not dead set on that, but it's what I would like to run.

RE: jacking points

Imagine the left side completely stuffed, and the right completely drooped. Now imagine during that the radius arms tweaking the axle in opposite directions with the weight of 36" meats on the ends.

If you don't have a lot of wheel travel and mostly plan to plow through mud holes a radius arm setup might be okay, but there are definately more versatile setups out there (Full Traction, Skyjacker to name two). It shouldn't be any harder to design your own 3 link setup for that matter either.

I went to look at it today and it was gone. The guy had his tow truck driver go pick all of his cars up and the driver took my Jeep too! I'd have been really pissed if he had towed the CJ off, but I guess he didn't feel like moving the pile of axles I have sitting behind it. So.....I'm XJless until he brings my ride back. The reason the guy towed that one is because there is a wrecked one that looks exactly like mine sitting back there too. He left the wrecked one and took mine :?
