radiator?

My 88 YJ came from the factory with a four banger in it, but the guy I bought it from stuffed a 4.0 from a 91 Cherokee but he neglected to do anything with the radiator. I am having problems keeping the jeep cool when I am wheeling. I have a 16" flexalite electric fan and I also put a 180 thermostat in. The jeep does fine on the highway and never overheats, but I can never keep the temperature down when I am wheeling. I am wanting to swap in another radiator without spending $400 plus on a Be Cool. Anybody have any experience or ideas on a radiator from another vehicle that will fit or work for a swap?

just a hunch, but maybe a radiator from a '91 cherokee with a 6 cyl. might work...

Yeah, I might be dumb but not quite that dumb. I already checked that out because my dad has a 91 cherokee with a 4.0 the radiator is to wide to fit in a wrangler.

Take your radiator to a good radiator shop and have it redone. The one in my 83 was clogged and in poor shape. It came with a two row and I had him put in a three row just in case. This only cost me $175. This would be your best bet, because if you go to a wrecking yard and buy one from a 4.0 Wrangler, it is a good possibility that it will only be passing 75% of what it should due to it being clogged up. Good luck.[addsig]

I always do a walk through of the nearest junk yard, the bigger the better, with a tape measure and a clear picture in my mind what I want. Paying close attention to the inlet and outlet. Chevy is usually a poor choice, Dodge often has the inlet outlet on the wrong side, Fords often work out. Drilling a few more holes never has bothered me much. Look in the radiator cap inside the radiator (flashlight), you can often see a buildup of crud. Check the outside for obvious dings and dents. Copper radiators are often a better choice. Small trucks and vans often yield the best choices, with air conditioned models being the best (extra row in core). Junk yards that deal in volumn, often will sell a radiator, for a few bucks above the price of the scrap metal prices. Many of the guys working in a junk yard, like what they are doing, and will help out a guy with similiar interests.
