i am posting this here because this is the only board that i participate in, and there are some knowledgeable folks here that i thought could help me. its not jeep related but i thought someone here would know....

its starting to warm up out and the ice is starting to melt so i need to get my beater going so i can hit the trails. i have a 1987 zuki samurai that had the motor rebuilt recently. since the rebuild it has a lound knock when first started that gets better as it warms up. when it is warmed up it wont idle (i think thats carb related), but the oil pressure light stays on until you rev on it. what could be the cause of the low oil pressure and the knocking? if i take off the valve cover and look inside there is oil getting in the top of the motor, maybe not enough though. do you think that it could be a bad oil pump?

get a real oil pressure gauge first. Lets see if the oil sending unit is any good.

will do.....the knocking is what has me puzzled the most though. the top end was just rebuilt and the block is a reman.

well, if you find out that the pressure is not there when you start it, And it should come up about 5 sec. or so. Then replace the pump/rebuild. And maybe it will cure the knocking... Knocking or tapping.. ? Knock's are lower Taps are higher.

hmmmm oil light and knocking sounds like your starting to wipe out the lower bearings. get a good gauge that hooks up to the sending unit and see what your pump pressure is and if its low i would go ahead and change the pump and check the bearings. you might be lucky and not have bearing problems but you will if the pump isnt producing enough pressure

is it an overhead cam? often times when you first start an overhead cam motor in the cold, after the oil has drained down, the cam is dry and must wait for oil to be pumped up top...
