Question about repairing floorboard

I started cleaning my floors (planning to hurculine inside) and ran into a problem. I had planned to sand them down and coat it good with POR-15, but after I cleaned off the driver side floor, I noticed that it has started to rust through (small amount that I have noticed so far) and so I obviously need to fix this first.

I first thought, just clean it good, put on some POR-15 and go... but not so sure as I think about this....

So, how should I proceed? Is there an easy way to take care of this, or do I need to replace the floor pan?

Thanks.

i would say to weld some metal in there to reinforce it... we did that before, replaced an entire floorpan that way

Heck if it is small enough I might not worry about it. My CJ has a small bullet hole that has been there a long time. I cured it with naval jelly and painted it black. I will line over it and if it get worse one day THEN I will take the time to replace it.

Cutting the fenders to Flaties?

I think I am going to clean it up, put some POR-15, and let it be for now. I will get another floor pan later on if it doesn't do the trick. I think Quadratec has them for about $25. Thanks for your information!

The cheapest fix and probably the easiest, and I use to replace floorplans for a living, If you are going to herculine, Then you will have some herculiner handy, here is what you do. Fine a place that sells sheet metal, or go to a auto body shop and see if they have some scrap "cold roll steel" You only need a small patch. POR 15 the hell out of the hole, and then put some herculiner over it. clean, prime, paint, sand then herculine you small patch piece. Use some silicone chalk (if possible, do this from the bottom) and apply around the hole, gasket sealer will also work. put the patch piece up to it, drill 4 holes, and then use some stainless rivots to hold it, done.
Cost
Patch piece~ free-$5.00
POR 15~ you already got it
herculiner~ got that too
Chalking~ $3.00 a tube, and it will last you years!
4 stainless rivots~ hardware store should sell for a couple bucks-$4.00

If you can, I would cut that rust out and weld in that patch piece in, por 15 prie and herculine. A little cheaper, but that assumes you can/have access to a welder and a cutter of some type (plasma cutter, cut off wheel)

jps, that sounds like a plan.... I've been cleaning up the rest of the tub, which isn't too bad, while I try to figure out what to do with that section. Think I'll check with the high school auto-body shop to see if they have any scrap laying around!

Maybe I'll get around to this within the next week or two. Until then, looks like I'll go ahead and get the por15 on it. Thanks. 8) 8)

If it´s no bigger than an inch or so around around, and it´s not over a floor brace or something. I´ve used a cone drill bit (antenna drill) drilled a hole and put a rubber floor plug in there. I know, not fair, but heck water collects there anyway, why not install a drain.
I´ve had good results with epoxy (polyester) resin, if it isn´t to bad and not structural. If it isn´t rusted through, more than a few pin holes, ruff it up good and put some expoy down, maybe a layer of glass mat, if needed. Coat of good primer. You can forget that spot for years.
Nothing really beats, welding in another peice of tin though.
I´ve got a patch, by the hatch, under the carpet, in my XJ, surface rot, I´m gonna, clean, epoxy and paint.

oh boy, i can't wait for my welder... i'm gonna have one strange lookin jeep with patches everywhere
