RE: Dead Jeep...

The hood release cable on Ixityre's Jeep has always been sticky, due for some more WD-40 on the moving parts... Popped the hood to jump my Jeep to jump Kevin's mustang, and hood would not close... Pulled on the release to unstick whatever was stuck, handle pulls right out. It's broken inside the Jeep, I mean, there is a just the slightest feathering of cable left on the end of the handle, so I figure that I can pull it out of the mounting, grab it with a pair of visegrips, and yank to re-open hood...

Probably going to order the new cable pretty soon, is this gonna be fairly easy to install? Any suggestions/helpful hints? Looks pretty straightforward, but I get freaked out about these things sometimes... I'm just glad that it didn't break off farther down the line...

haha, I was just sitting here trying to remember how the cable went on my Jeep. Then I saw your post Snitty, and realized I was in the xj forum, and mine was a yj...with no cables to open the hood

Boy it's been a long day...

Real Jeeps just have a couple of hooks to release and then there you go! tooo much stuff to break on them long wheel base jeeps! hehehehe tug

Yeah, but your hooks might... well, no... But if they got sticky, you'd... well, you could fix that... But what if they... no, no, that's easy to get around...

*sigh*
