The valet key is intended only to start the vehicle and not be able to unlock the lockable compartments inside the vehicle like the glovebox etc. This will give you an extra security for items you wish not to be tampered with by strangers like a valet. The sentry key on Chrysler , Dodge and Jeeps are easily distinguished by its color on the older models. If its black, no chip or transponder in the key, meaning not a sentry key. The gray key is a sentry key that needs to be programmed prior to using it on the vehicles ignition. Until then, it's only good for opening doors . Some security features on the Chrysler , dodge and jeeps will only allow you to use an un programmed key to start the ignition 3 times with a start and stall event. After the security system reaches a theft event, the system will completely lock out the ignition start and can only be reset by a dealer. I hope this helps answer your questions.
