First off I am new just signed up. My name is Jeremy and the site looks great. I guess I am just going to look for anything you guys can tell me about a 1987 Jeep Wrangler. A buddy of mine is moving and he has to sell it. I just saw it last night and it looks really nice. I am 32 now and have always wanted one my entire life. Looking to see if any of you guys know of anythings to look for or be aware of on this year Jeep. He has a 2 inch lift I believe he said. It has BF Goodrich tires but they need to be replaced. The ones on the Jeep now are on aluminum American Racing aluminum wheels and they look pretty nice. He also has a set of 4 all season radials on another set of wheels that goes with it. Also has a hard top and bikini top. He said the whole bottom end of the motor is new. He is a big Jeep guy and always did the maintenance on it. Total miles is around 150,000. It also has the inline 6 cylinder with a 5 speed I believe. I know gas is not the greatest on them but is sure would be a blast to cruise around with the top off. Not to mention it would be nice with all the harsh Wisconsin winters too.

So nice to be here and looking forward to any and all information good or bad on this vehicle. I have 2 weeks to make up my mind. Thanks:)

Welcome to Jeepz!

the YJs are a pretty good value these days.. not too expensive, but great on the trails. For that particular year, the only issue I could think of would be the carb. I believe that year had the carter carb, which is well know as a piece of junk. I had an 85 cj-7 with the same engine / carb, and it did ok for years, but most people look to swap that out with something like a motorcraft 2100.

Another problem I had was a leaky valve cover, which is common, but a $20 gasket can fix that.

Let us know if you end up buying it.
