Posi-lock my YJ

Re: 2 wheel low

I used a manual vacuum switch, real easy to install. Came of a Quadratrac SJ.

Still uses the vacuum disconnect in the front axle, but bypasses the transfer case and allows 2wd low, or 3wd if you have a locker in the front.

I paid $140.00 for mine, the best thing I ever did, blast into 4wd with no problems, well worth not having to bother with the vacuum system. 8) 8)

Bounty, that's a good idea. I would have never thought about the SJ emergency drive switch. That WILL be done to my next YJ. It would look cool mounted in the dash with a modified "emergency drive only" sticker around it.

Two types of manual vacuum switches came in the Quadratrac SJ, dial and lever. I used the lever, it looks just like the fan speed lever on the YJ, and I mounted it below the stereo.

Each switch has one vacuum input and two outputs. Easy to install, just run the intake manifold vacuum (red line along firewall to battery) to the input at the switch. The switch's two outputs run into the engine compartment and tie into the stock vacuum lines running to the front axle along the passenger side frame rail, inside of the shock mount.

Real simple to return to stock if need be.

I use it because it allows me to run a welded front diff and disconnect the pass. side shaft for street use and 3wd for tight trail turns.

Can probably be done for $15 or so, depending on where you source the switch.

This is exactly what mine looks like without the brown trim piece, just the lever sticking out from under the dash: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=33736&item=2459183417

It only takes about 30 minutes, including installing the switch.

I mounted mine under the dash. Cut two vertical lines with a hacksaw in the small lip that curls back from the bottom of the dash. I then bent that piece flat with the bottom of the dash to have a larger flat area to mount the switch. Drill a hole and the threaded area of the switch goes right in, securing with one big nut.

It's a great mod if your familiar with the vacuum disconnect on the front axle and now how to keep it in good working order. I carry a spare vacuum disconnect as well, so it's only about a 5-minute swap out.
