Por-15

Has anyone used POR-15 as an undercoating for your Jeep. What is the best way to apply it? Can it be sprayed on and if it can what percentage do I have to thin it? I have the transmission, transfercase, engine, and gastank all pulled out and need to stop the rust......

Thanks,

Doug

I've sprayed POR15 before. I think there were instructions on the can, but can't seem to remember. I just eyeballed it, and got it alittle too thin, but it still worked. Wear a full coverall and head covering, or you'll never get the POR out of your hair / skin / face.

Just remember that POR can't be in direct sunlight, or it will fade / breakdown.

POR-15 is the most nasty stuff in the world.... we use it all the time at work and it works great. You can spray it brush it or roll it. If you roll it or brush it throw the brush or roller away after you use it, forget trying to clean the stuff. if you spray it use a mask and Old clothes that you don't mind throwing away or will only use for Jeep work and yard work. Right on the can it tells you that if you get it on your skin the only thing that will take it off is time. (A Belt sander will work too if you don't mind the scars)

POR-15 does not dry, it absorbs water from the air to cure. it drys slow in dry cool air and drys real fast in moist hot weather (it will pull the water from your skin to cure). If the metal you are going to coat is clean and new you want to get the POR prep to get the metal ready to take the POR-15. use POR-15 straight from the can, no cutting, as it is like water right out of the can. I have used it on frames and it works great, but hard to get paint to stick to it. Under coating sticks just great over it. I know there is a Por-15 that will take paint over it but not sure what you have to do to it. Go to POR15.com and check out their FAQ area and that should help.
