RE: Re: RE: Re: New wheels

I have a 1999 Jeep Wrangler, and I have recently replaced the battery after about a year of use. After a week and a half of use, the battery was dead on my again this morning. I normally park the Jeep over the weekend, and drive it to work Monday through Friday. I am in Texas, and it has been 100* plus the last few weeks. Is the heat and the two days of not being started killing my battery, or do I have another problem?

could also be wiring, alternator, a ground thats draining your battery, etc..

RE: new to forum, could use advice

Batteries actually work better when they're warm, so I doubt the heat is killing it. The first thing I would do is jump it and disconnect the jumper cables and the dead battery to see if it still runs. If not, it's likely the alternator. There are more precise tests, though, such as measuring the amps coming out of the alternator.

with a volt meter, you should be getting about 12.0 volts when its not running, and 14.0 when it is running...

RE: 93 Wrangler

A new battery should not die after a week and a half, even from the heat (unless, of course, your Jeep is parked on Venus or Mercury  ). Sounds like you've got other problems.............like a bad ground somewhere causing a constant drain.

RE: Possibly a wiring issue?

like mud said...disconnect the ground on the battery and with all turned off use an amp meter between the batt. pole and clamp to see if there is something draining the batt.... could be a real pain to track but there should be NO load (current draw) w/the key turned off
