hey what gives with the parts houses charging 198.00 bucks for a 87 jeep starter...and 40.00bucks for a 77 jeep starter...THEY ARE THE SAME !
I had a starter go out so i lokked on the net and found a bunch from 198.00 to 300.00 bucks! then i remembered that i had a old 77 starter from my 304 equiped jeep on the shelf. the teeth were a little worn but it was working fine when i upgraded a ways back. so i popped the starer in (4.2 six) and wirr it starts fine. i ordered a 77 started from the local shop for 38.00 bucks and put it in today. So what gives ??? is this one of those jeep people know but parts people don't kind of things ???? I told the kid at the shop to do his jeep people some favors and tell them about the fit and he said that no way would it fit. i drove up later and proved it....but i doubt he will do the right thing, after all a buck is a buck....:?|

My guess more torque required to turn over a I6 than a V8 ???

Or simply cost/demand issue

Just goes to show that "old" is not necessarily bad.

Old, teeth a little worn,
