Paint code

The code plate on the firewall of my 81 Jeep CJ7 was badly torn up and I would like the paint code so I can order the paint, when it is time. Is there a way I can get the code from the VIN? There are vendors to whom I can go, but it would be a case of just matching colors. Can anyone out there help me?

Don't think the paint is in the vin.

Do you have any idea of what the original color was ? Blue, red ? If you just knew that, I bet there weren't to many color choices in 81.

Thanks for the replies. I do have a piece of the original body, and I think I can match it up to a 1K or a 1J. I see a lot of new Jeeps with the same color, maybe I can pull one of them over and look under the hood. LOL. At any rate, I am sure I will be fine.
