Overheating, Overheating, Overheating

Hey gang, we've got a 1988 Cherokee with a 1998 4.0 in it. Everything seems great except it overheats constantly. Is there a secret to getting enough coolant into it. I've followed the book to the "T" on the correct method of filling the coolant tank and it still overheats. It seems to me that someone told me several years ago that there was a way to "bleed" the air out of the system but I can't remember exactly what that was. If it means anything, the 88 coolant tank is still in use; does it have to have the 98 tank ? As always, thanx for any help.

Thanks, 54CJ3B, now that's a new one to me, but makes tons of sense. I wish I could recall what that guy told me a couple of years ago; it was something like removing a plug near the rear, upper portion of the block to let the air out but I just don't remeber. And, alka seltzer, makes perfect sense to me. I'll let you know.
Thanks.
