My 92 xj is making all kinds of noises from the front end. I guess I should first tell my story. I just had a clutch put in it approximately 2 months ago and it has been fine. But when I went to pick it up I was told that I needed a new front hub/wheel bearing. (I knew about it, but It wasnt that bad) I got in it and it felt like the wheel was going to fall off. So I spent the money and replaced it. While I was replaced it, I found that my universal joint was really really stiff, I mean stiff that it wouldn't bend in one direction. So i replaced it. Everything was good for a month, then the other side universal joint went out, so i replaced that. Now that there are no noises coming from the universals, I get all kinds of noise from everything else. It clicks grinds and rubs when I turn. But it is very tempremental, I will do it all the time and then all of a sudden it wont. I had it up on jack stands and checked everything. The tie rods are ok, on end needs to be replaced, but other then that it is fine.
When I had it up on jack stands one thing bothered me. I had all four wheels off of the ground I put it in four wheel drive and when i turn the wheel all the way either way it sort of bounces the drive train. It litterally bounces the wheels and makes a horible noise. Ive watched all the universal joints and nothing has play in it.
now after i got it off the jack stands, I drove it to a muddy lot and sat there and spun the wheels in four wheel drive, and it makes no noise at all. Like it's brand new.
so the only time it makes noise is when it is in two wheel drive and when It is turning. It is a horrible noise that really makes me feel unsure about taking it anywhere far.
well that is my story, any help would be appreciated.
thanks a lot
