Lately my oil pressure has been a little low. now whenever i floor it wont go above 30 pounds of pressure. I purchased a new oil sending unit it was cheap so why not. Any suggestions on how to check this problem or what it might be. I have a 1990 cherokee with a 4.0L. I have a huge trip to take this weekend and i want to make sure my car wont die. and possible fixes

Use a wet guage to manually check the pressure. Any 2 bit mechanic should have one. It screws into where the sender unit goes and reads actual pressure instead of transferring it into voltage.

If the pressure is still low, it may not be a quick fix. Oil pressure is determined by many factors including bearing clearance and oil flow. You may end up droppnig the pan to check the pick-up tube for trash.

Do not waste money changing the oil unless you suspect that something like fuel has contaminated it. 9 times out of 10, it is not the oil's fault.

you might be able to buy your own wet guage from a parts store cheaper than a shop will charge you to test it. just a thought

Here is what one looks like..

RE: cheap websites for yj models

I bought a new sender unit because it was way cheaper then buying the device you have pictured. I thought about getting that but for now i will just try installing a new unit. is this something easy to do?
