you guys know how i have been having trouble with my gauges in the center, above the heater controls? everything was reading weird and some things were pegging out.
well, i pulled the gauges and tore them down to clean all the connections and check the circuit board and all the jazz, the other day. turns out that i had tons of corrosion on the posts and on the nut that grounds the gauges to the circuit board. i cleaned it all up and all my gauges started reading alot better except the oil pressure gauge. (there is an aftermarket gauge hanging off hte bottom of the ac)
i ran to o'reilly's and had them pull a picture of the sending unit since hte engine in my wrangler is from a 99 and not the original 4.2. it turns out whoever swapped the motors tried using the original two prong sending unit and it was pegging the gauge out and thats why they installed the aftermarket mechanical gauge.
i bought the correct sending unit and plugged it in and now i have all the gauges working properly. even my fuel gauge reads now. the fuel gauge would read full until about 200 miles and it would drop to zero. now it reads all the way across the range (but its jumpy so i have to drop that tank and find out whats wrong with the float arm)
so, if you are having issues on that gauges wit ha new to you jeep, make sure the proper sending units are installed and then clean your connections at the cluster.
i am ****ed at myself because i spent a few hours doing the gauge stuff because i took really in-depth pictures for a write up. then when i was done, i figured my phone auto updated the pics (like its programmed to do, upload as soon at the pic is taken, to my photobucket account) so i went and deleted them to free up ram for internet access. i go in the house and open photobucket so i can make a nice cluster write up and no pics. :x:x boy was i mad.
