Oil Filter upgrade

There is a longer oil filter that will fit the 2.5L and 4.0L, it's about 2" longer than what's listed. The benefits are probably marginal, but may include longer filter life, longer oil life, and increased oil cooling.

When your at the parts store, compare the Fram PH16 with the PH8a (I think those numbers are right it's been a while, and don't flame me for Fram, I'm not advertising them). The gasket size and thread size are the same. Make the change with whichever brand you use. Feel the power difference

The 8 is for the older jeeps and the 16 is for the newer jeeps. I would double check the thread though, I thought one was a metric....

A power difference? Bounty, are you speaking from experience? Is there really an increase in power just because the filter has larger volume?

Actually, some YJs came with standard and some with metric... I beleive they are 16 and 16a (not sure about the 16a though, since mine is standard, I use the 16)... There is a sticker on the radiator support that tells which one your Jeep has...

be careful which type you buy though. A stock filter is fine, but if you go with one of the heavy duty or high tow capacity filters from Fram it'll drop your oil pressure. Been there, done that, got the shirt covered in oil.

hi_c, note the

Double check the thread and gasket size before you use, but it's easy to find one with more capacity. Not a big deal, and who knows what benefits if any, but it's there if ya want it.
