odd wheerrrrrrrr

ok so im drivin' around in my new to me Jeep and i hear an odd sound. sounds like a hair dryer and its constant untill i stop, then it slowly dies away. no change in pitch nor volume. untill i stop. odd huhh. any ideas.

Have you checked to see if maybe it's something connected to your AC (if you have it)? I know in my 00XJ thatsometimes when the AC/defrost kicks on it sounds like a deep hair dryer. But it goes on and off. Shouldn't stay on all the time.

Check your cooling fan? What kind of jeep? Corn stalks in the drive shaft? that's about all i've got.

Sounds sound different to everybody, but I would check your compressor. I had to replace mine because it was making some awful banshee noises.

hmm. posible AC thing. ill have to crank it up and see what happens.

If it goes away whe you stop then it could be a brake hung, or a brake issue. JOE>

i could see that, but the thing is it slowly goes away when i stop. ive accualy stoped got out kinda quick like and tryed to listen to ware it was coming from and i cant hear it from the outside. at least not when it is at the fade away stage. so very odd.

I used to have an old Land Cruiser, and it had a funny sound with the same characteristics, It turns out there is a rinaround the pinion on the rear axle, and it will get loose and spin while driving(sounds like you decribe). i do not know whether they have this on your Jeep, but might be worth looking.
