OBD letter

I got a letter in the mail this week stating my OBD has been extended to a lifetime warranty. Anyone else get this letter? How would I know that my OBD is malfunctioning? Would someone explain just what the OBD is? Is it part of the PCM? Anyone have an 05-06 that ended up falling into this category and get a covered replacement?

OBD- On Board Diagnostics. That letter simply states that if there is any malfunctions or failures on the OBD system, Chrysler will repair the cause under an extended warranty code. Each module( computer ) that directly relates to the function of emissions or drivability issues that's caused by the OBD failure to run was found to be caused by a wiring issue. From what I've gathered, its not VIN specific but instead, by year production. Eventually, they will be able to isolate it to a closer gap by associating the VIN involved with the issue..

Yeah, I received one of those letters too. There is a test you can perform with the key in the ignition to see if the OBD is working properly. The instructions are listed on the back of the letter and in the owners manual. My Wrangler failed the test so the local dealer replaced mine at no charge (under warranty). It took them just under an hour to do.
