Newbie with a question.

I have had this 92 wrangler off and on through out its whole life. I bought it new. It now has 254 k on the odometer and its still running without problems. I got hit by a drunk last weekend and now the insurance company wants to total it out. So my question is after seeing the pictures does it look repairable? How would you go about replacing the part under the door? Thanks in advance.

BTW there is no frame damage at all.

Thats totalled? Id let the insurance company total it out, and then buy it back from them for next to nothing. You will have a salvage title, but you will have your baby. I dont think you will have a big problem fixing it since there is no frame damage.

I went through the same problem(although mine had slight frame damage). The woman at the local insurance office straight up told me they will always try to screw us on our jeep insurance because even torn up they can always sell them off. Anything short of a train/semi hitting them and all they see is money at an auction. I worked crushing cars all summer and there is no such thing as a totalled jeep. We crushed perfect cars all day long while someone would be towing a torn up jeep off to fix.

I would think it could be hammered/pulled back out, or cut out and replaced if you have skills. The door would be more tough.

I'd say keep it. On my CJ7, both rear corners are scratched up and bent. One was from the previous owner, and I flipped it a couple months ago  If you are to ever go wheeling, it may get scratched or beat up anyways; that's the way I see it. If you don't go wheeling, then I guess you could drive it until it dies.

Thanks guys,

After talking with insurance they will pay 5300 and they keep it or I can buy it back for 1643.00 and I keep it, but with a salvage title. Well I guess I will have a wrecked jeep with a salvage title and 3657.00 to put it back together.

Thanks again. I will start on this again after I get all my tools unpacked. Anyone in the Austin/ Pflugerville area that would like to help? I now have a 1300 square foot shop and lots of tools but I am not a body man.

Just hit me up if your ever in Pflugerville and just want to have a beer.

I really think a 2' 4x4 piece of stock and a 2# mallet will get you basically to the shape you started out with. Then a Rubber mallet for direct contact for fine tuning. Take a 2x4 to fix the outside bottom and roll it back to where it belongs.

Also, can't you just cancel the claim and keep the Jeep? Do you have the title?

With that money, you can get a new door, fix the bump, and add sone nice goodies!

I do have the title in hand, but what I cannot understand is, when I wrecked my truck last year the insurance totaled it out. I bought it back with a clear title and resold it for a profit. How come I cannot get a clear title back for the jeep? Sounds like a BS scam on the insurance side. I was also told by the claims adjuster that the 5300 is negotiable. How is that even possible?

Insurance companies are not out to be your friend, they're out to make money. 1,643 is a ridiculous price to pay to buy back a jeep you already own. I had to pay 1,200(twisted frame) because the woman told me they could easily get that price at an auction for it and they don't care who the vehicle belonged to in the end as long as they got their money. Wreck a civic and you can buy it back for a couple hundred dollars.

Maybe I'm being thick, but why do you need a salvage title and to do the whole buy/sell scam? Just have them give you the difference between the two prices in cash, and keep the Jeep and repair it. Or is this an issue local to your state?

Thank all of you for your great input. At this point I have the jeep and a check for the difference. I have found a 93 tub and have cut out the drivers side. I will get pictures us of the progress as soon as I get the jeep from San Marcos to Austin.

Yes its repairable, but not money ahead for the ins co.... do a buy back and keep it. just tell them you want to keep it and settle. it happens everyday at the shop...

i think the whole salvage title deal is to help "protect" future buyers - to let them know there have been "issues" in the past - problem is - there's no side note as to what the "issues" might have been... and as for the $$$ take the deal - pay them back as little as possible, break out the hammers and dollies and do your best til you can fix it as you want to... now... i have my title, wouldnt mind to trade a bruise like that for $3600 - and as for the title - keep records, pictures, notes, reciepts etc so if you do sell in the future it makes the explaination easier - i wouldnt have a problem buying your jeep w/a salvage title knowing what happened was that minor... just my $.02 - g'luck

Ok my 93 tub has fallen through. As the seller quoted "He just offered me more money. Well now I have to go another route. I looked at the part Rielly suggested. Its nice but it does not have the JEEP stamped into the metal. I think that will be my last resort. Does anyone have or know someone with a 88-93 tub or just the Driver side of the tub? I will pay cash. I am in Austin Texas and will also pay to have it shipped to me. No rust would be a plus... Let me know.
