Hey everyone, i dont have a jeep yet, but am planning on getting one within the next month or so. I really like the way jeeps look with soft tops on them, and that's what i wanted to get, but i was wondering that if i have the soft top on, and the air condition on will i still feel the texas heat when im driving around. And with the top on and driving on the highway will there be a big difference than if i had a hardtop on the jeep. Sorry if you dont understand my questions, but any help would be awesome.. I want to get my jeep as soon as possible, but need to figure out exactly what i want before i buy one. Again any help is welcome...

Thanks Alot

I have a softtop. Never had a hardtop. Lived in NE PA and Western Ohio. No mater cold or hot the soft top worked with both the heater or air. It's easy to put up and down. Couldn't tell you there is any difference between them on the hi-way. mpg or other.
The only thing with soft tops are they are easily broken into. Hasn't happened yet. But I keep nothing in it.

Thanks alot JPNinPA... I plan on keeping the top down a lot during the summer, but getting stuck in traffic in the texas heat with no way to cool off isnt something i wanted...

I live in Charleston so I know a little something about the heat. I started out with the hard and soft top but soon sold the hard top when I realized there was no need for it. In the winter I have no problem at all keeping the interior warm. No matter how cold it gets (30s around here) I end up with the fan on low and have to adjust the temp dial because I get too warm. In the summer, again no problem cooling the interior at all. When it is in the 90s and above, I keep the top up but have the windows and doors off and don't get too hot. When stopped at a light the a/c on high will keep a little cool air on me so it's not too bad and when moving there is enough wind to keep you cool.

What year Jeep are you looking to get?

hey todd, thanks for the help.. and i was looking for a wrangler from like 04-08... but probably one a little older because its more in my budget...

Soft top or hard top eventually they both come off. Just depends on how much effort you want to put in to it. All you have to do now is test drive. From what you said above it's either gonna be a tj (9?-06) or a jk (07-10 so far) both have pluses and minuses. So drive a few and get what you want. You'll have fun either way. Enjoy you're jeep.

Ours does not have A/C but we were in FL last week (in my Sport Trac with A/C) and I saw a lot of Jeeps with soft tops and the windows up.

While I can somewhat relate to the mix of Jeep and A/C as sacrilege, there is a difference between rocking down the road with the wind in your hair and baking in stop-and-go traffic for an hour or so. One reason I like my Sport Trac is because the rear window powers down like the one on a '63 Mercury.

We had a bad winter here (see av) and the Jeep spent most of it with the heater on high and it was still pretty friggen' cold inside.
