Got a K&N

Ok guys heres the deal. Sometime between this spring and next fall im going to have to replace the top on my jeep. So now i just have to decide which one. Even though im still open to suggestions, i was thinking either the Bestop R.A.T. or the Bestop Supertop. I had also sorta considered the California Tops Sport top. Any opinions? which would you guys go with? Experiences?

TIA

Nathan

Definitely go with the Bestop Supertop, they make great fitting tops that are easy to put up and down. Spend the extra for the supertop cause you get the new hardware with it. Maybe you should post a poll. I had one on my 91YJ and will also be replacing the factory top on my 95YJ this summer/fall.

I'd go with the Bestop Sunrider. With the Sunrider, you can fold back just the front half for a sunroof if you want. They're also very easy to take down and put up compared to a stock top.

What kind of doors do you have? A RAT if you have the half doors and square uppers and want to save $$$. I would go supertop or sunrider if you have a set of full steels or don't mind buying new upper soft doors, then you can have more options like full soft doors etc.

As far as the Cali sport tops, it's my understanding that they dont seal around any doors unless you pull/stretch the top fabric over the doors (every time). I wanted one of those tops until I saw that. Rock Gear tops are the same way.

Why not a replacement top? You have all the hardware, save the extra money for something else.

Keep the opinions coming guys!

Heres my thoughts so far though. As far as the sunrider, from the pictures ive seen im not sure i like the hardware set up, but im not sure.

As far as doors, i have half doors, but i need to replace the uppers anyway, so no matter what i get ill have to get new uppers. What i was wondering was just if the Supertop is any better of a design than the factory top. Like is it quieter? Easier to remove? Anything else?

Thanks guys, keep it coming...

you would be able to fold down the supertop in the summer without taking off the hardware....have you ever seen the bestop halftop, that thing is sweet. unless you like to take people with you or haul stuff  ...i have always liked the rockgear and california tops, but if they dont seal worth crap that just sucks!!! :( ...ashame too because they are an awesome design and cheap too.

Stick with Bestop no matter which top you get, no other brand compares. Get the RAT and save the money you would have spent on a more expensive top for something else. You'd need door uppers with rounded rear corners for the supertop, and I've never seen them. Fiberglass uppers are a waste. Stick with OEM.

spiralmax worth the money

Sounds to me that for what you have and need, a supertop really wouldn't be worth it. I've heard they're easier to fold down, but I can put my factory top down and back up very quickly. You can get a Bestop replace-a-top pretty cheap and it'll come with the upper door skins (you'll have to tear your old ones off the frames). I personally wouldn't spend the extra money for the sailcloth version, but they are very thick and quiet.

I'd go for a supertop... they're easier and quicker to take on and off and from my experience they last longer and are less likely to frey at the edges no matter how rough you are with it.

And as for the sunrider tops... they do look nice on any jeep... but I've had a couple of friends who've had a lot of problems with them...

all of the interior carpet out of a tj

I just got a Bestop RAT. Other than the replacement skins that keep falling off because the velcro does not hold them in place, it was an excellent choice. Definetely worth the $$$.-al
