Anyone know why you need the data interface thing to install an aftermarket radio? Why cant you just install the radio with a harness? I have no clue what the interface does or why it is needed. All I know is it costs a lot.
The interface fools the can bus system that the radio is still installed. All new veh use multiplex networks called can bus. Taking out the radio will take the can bus down. Setting codes in a bunch of modules etc etc.
And i think in 2011 the radio is a gateway in some models where all the modules communicate through the radio. If the system doesnt see a module it will set dtcs in all the modules its connected to sometimes up to fifteen.
