We found a mutt today that we just had to adopt. The kids love her.
It is our first dog as a family and we couldn't be happier.

We think she is about 3 months old and has some Beagle in her.
Can you guys who know dogs give us some idea what what other breed traits you see.

I've always been a mutt man.........probably because I consider myself a mutt. Consider yourself lucky, 90! This one showed up on our porch one morning and is now part of our family:

I know what you mean Mud, I know people have reasons for paying big bucks for pure breeds and that is all fine, but there is something cool about good old mutt.

As mudwoman just said, "They're one of a kind"!!!

CUTE!

Hard to tell when they are young. Just wait until it gets older, and then repost pics. I agree about the Beagle part tho. Feet look a bit too small to get as large as Dingus' dog.

MUTTS rule!

Looks like Cujo!
Cool dog. Mine old Weimeraner died last summer. I sure have missed the old guy. He was 12.

90X, I am a Veterinary Technician by trade and I would agree that is does probably have some beagle in it, but in the pics, the pup looks pretty big so far, a beagle usually only weighs around 10-20 or so pounds. Send me a pic of the teeth and that would help a little more. I did notice it had a flea collar on and i will tell you this, they don't work. Get rid of it, because puppies like to chew and if he gets it off, then you have a problem when he ingest it, pending on the chemical, he could get very sick or just have a little diarhea. I am a big supporter of mutts. I have had many due to the profession. It's hard to euthanize so many dogs and cats everyday and you always have that one that you bond to and want to save. Anyway, off my soap box, but email me if you have any questions as to what vaccines and other medicines you need for the little guy. Heartworms are a very big problem in the warmer climates, mostly the south. And don't forget about Rabies, and various intestinal parasites that we can get from our furry little friends. I always cringe when I see children walking around outside barefoot because there are many organisms that penetrate our skin and migrate throughout our body and cause many health problems in children mostly. Anyway, sorry for the long post.

many times when you buy a so called "pure breed" you inherit the problems that come with it. There are many irresponsible breeders out there that only care about money so they could care less about genetics and over generations of litters, the pups get worse. Whether it is bad hips, bad teeth. knee caps or temperament. Temperament is a big one when it comes to the chows, Rotts and a few other breeds. Mutts are the best way to go because they have not had focused/selective breeding and they tend to have less medical problems. In my humble opinion. Nothing wrong with purebreeds as long as they responsibly breed.

I appreciate that offer. We will try and get a pic to you of her teeth later today.:)

Looking at his belly pattern, He looks as if he may have some terrior in him (like a Jack Russell). I agree with the beagle traits.

My dog Maverick....He is a Wire Hair JRT...Notice his spotted belly

I love your dog's color. Male or female?

male. he's 12 years old now and has really bad cataracts, to the point where he doesn't even bother to close his eyes when he's asleep. always walking into things too - walls, furniture, doors, etc...

he's a great dog, just wish he could still see. he's in terrible shape now (can't run if ya can't see), i'm just glad he's happy.

Awesome! I, too, am an advocate for the good old mutt. We have a husky, chow, and who knows what mix. The ***** was a husky-chow mix but we don't know what the dog was. She is one of the best dogs I have ever owned, and that includes some very well bred retreivers and spaniels.

Beagle does seem evident, but I wouldn't read too much on the spots on the belly. Our mutt has them too.

Enjoy the little mutt, and try some Frontline for the fleas/ticks. Well worth it as we live in an area where ticks are abundant and she has never had an imbedded tick on her to date.

TC's got it right. Frontline or a similar product (Advantage, etc) are THE answer for flea control. Little drop between the shoulders and NO flea problems.....don't know how it works, but it does, trust me. Those flea colars aren't worth a lick.

I looked for that this weekend and could not find a package with dosage for dogs under 15lbs. But I think the store I was at is just out of it.
