I havent put the timing light on it yet, started sleeting on me this evening, i was wondering, how far can i advance the timing without causing problems?????? thanks in advance for any info
Well the only real limit to that is at the point you get Spark knock or pinging under high RPM or Load. You don't want that since it can internal damage and you would want to retarde it just a hair until that doesn't happen. Another thing I can recomend is running higher octane fuel will allow you to use a more advanced timming. That is the mostly unknown fact about Gas. The Octane it contain actually makes is harder to ignite. Low octane fuel might combust too soon from the heat and pressure like a deseil engine. This explodes the gas before the cylinder is all the way up and can cause damage since the engine would actually be working against itself. Most fuel injected cars have a knock sensor to check for this and will retarde the timming the moment a knock is detected. You might also want to advance it some and take it for a ride and advance it some more until you reach the best preformance. You will reach a point where it won't help anymore. You have to rememeber the vacuum advance on the dist will advance it more at high rpm I hope this helps you.
