What do you know about jeeps? Specifically, 1990 to 2001 Jeep Cherokee 4x4, 4 door. Do you know which engines are better? Which transmissions? Looking to be a replacement for a rolled land cruiser.
I've got a 2001 with a 4.0 & I love it. The engine, trans & transfer case are the same as a Wrangler with automatic. I have 30inch tires with no lift. Mine is used as a winter daily driver, great in the snow...have run a few easy trails & it is surely a capable rig. I've seen some that are set up for tougher trails & it's clear there are a lot of aftermarket upgrades available. I say "get one" you'll be glad you did"
Are the engines and transmissions the same setup as their wrangler counterparts for most years? I have a 2002 TJ and my friend was inquiring about a cherokee and I can't tell him much because I only have experience with the wrangler flavor..
The straight 6 in the XJ Cherokees is the 4.0HO same as the Wranglers...I'm not sure about the Wrangler automatics, but the Cherokees had the Aisin Warner aw30-40 which is a 4spd auto...the transfer case is a NV231J(NP231J) which is the same as the Wrangler. Hope that helps....As I said before mine is a 2001 not sure when/what changes may have been made from earlier models.
