Ok so i was changing the oil in the jeep sunday afternoon, and had something that i think is kinda strange happen. When i pulled the drain plug, the oil absolutely shot out of there like ive never seen before. It was like it had a whole lotta pressure behind it. Any ideas what might have caused this? I was thinking maybe a bad PCV valve? Any ideas?? I dont know it might not even be anything wrong at all, but it was kinda strange i thought.

By the way, who in the world decided to position the drain plug so that the oil goes all over the exhaust when you pull it?

Mine always seems to shoot out with a fair amount of pressure, I think its fine but maybe someone else can enlighten us...

usually.. if you have the oil cap off the valve cover, which you should during an oil change, you will relieve any pressure that should not be in there in the first place... and.. when you remove the cap, it allows air to enter the engine so the oil can flow out from the drain hole faster... sometiems, at the right angle, or with the right altitude, that oil does seem like it is pressurized in there

If it comes out with the same pressure after removing the oil cap, it's normal. If it's only under pressure with the cap installed, your building pressure in the crankcase that will start to blow seals. Most commonly a clogged CCV system (your jeep doesn't have PCV). Check the vacuum hose that goes from the airbox to the valve cover, there should be a plastic piece inline or a brass piece where it connects to the valve cover. This has a small orifice in it that often clogs with carbon. Clean with a straightened paperclip.

thanks bounty, that was the kind of answer i was looking for :)
What other kind of effects could that have? (id go check and see if its like that, but its nite, and im already in my dorm room. Ill try and remember to look tomorow)

Redline MT90 or Pennzoil Syncromesh For a AX15

Hey Bounty, I just went and looked under the hood. Ive got about a half inch line running from the airbox to a plastic elbow that has a rubber seal as it goes into the valve cover. No orifice that i can find, and i cleaned it off to be sure. Am I missing somthing here? any other ideas/suggestions??

Thanks

Nathan
