need some transfer case info

Ok ---Stupid question--I know---and yes I know I need to buy a shop manual. I have a 89 with a NP231 transfer case. A while back I posted about my slip joint was stuck--finnaly got it out--what a pain. What kind of fluid should I use in the transfer case?? I live in the Virgin Islands---I can't just hop down to the local 4x4 shop---we have only basic, pretty limited selection of auto parts/oils and such. and where should I put it in--I'm guessing the spedo plug---thanks

good news for you... you don't need anything special... its actually quite the common oil you need.... just use some automatic transmission fluid and you'll be all set

There are two plugs on the back side of the transfer case that look the same. Bottom one is the drain plug, upper one is the fill plug.
