We need more info. What Engine do you have?, 4.0, 5.2, 5.9?. The Check engine light along with all the other lamps on your Instrument Cluster should momentarilly turn on and then shuts off after it's done running a self test. This is Normal so i would consider that irrelevant to the symptom. The fact that you say that there is no DTC, i'm more inclined to say that you may have a circuit that's intermittently shorting to ground , open short or short to voltage. either way we need to know what Engine you have on your Jeep.

Without the DTC , it make's it more difficult to narrow the possible causes. there has been several reported accounts on a Rub Through on the wiring harness going to the PCM, particularly the 5Volt orange wire, which causes the engine to intermittently shut down due to a PCM reset when this wire shorts to ground. this issue does Not produce any DTC and sound's similar to your concern. Check the wiring harness in the engine compartment. pay close attention on the areas where the engine may rub through the convolute tubing and wire harness insulation.

I found that if I just move the harness around the pcm it starts to sputter

Possible Scenarios: Loose connection to the PCM, Corrosion on terminal pins on the PCM, Chafed wiring causing a short. sound like your getting close to the cause of the problem.

Nope. just make sure the Seal on each connector is in good condition.

INTERMITTENT AND POOR CONNECTIONS
Most intermittent electrical problems are caused by faulty electrical connections or wiring. It is also possible for a sticking component or relay to cause a problem. Before condemning a component or wiring assembly check the following items.

Connectors are fully seated
Spread terminals, or terminal push out
Terminals in the wiring assembly are fully seated into the connector/component and locked in position
Dirt or corrosion on the terminals. Any amount of corrosion or dirt could cause an intermittent problem
Damaged connector/component casing exposing the item to dirt and moisture
Wire insulation that has rubbed through causing a short to ground
Some or all of the wiring strands broken inside of the insulation covering.
Wiring broken inside of the insulation
