RE: thread previews
Hi-Ya Bounty,
That is a common high-current, general purpose diode. The "Fairchild" 1N5400 through 1N5408 data sheet is found here:
http://www.fairchildsemi.com/ds/1N/1N5400.pdf
One place to purchase that diode is here:
http://www.futurlec.com/Diodes/1N5408pr.shtml
If you "Google" on "1N5408," you will be provided with many more sources.
Because it is a common diode, I would first call the local electronic/electrical parts houses (to include NAPA) and see if they stock that diode or an equivalent. Doing that might avoid the situation where shipping and handling fees total fifty times the cost of the diode.
If all else fails, perhaps your nearest "Ford" dealer parts department could help.
Regards,
Gadget
PS-1: A great web article, with excellent schematics, about transplanting a "Taurus" electric fan is found here:
http://www.fordmuscle.com/archives/2003/02/electricfan/index.shtml
I mention that article because it includes a discussion of the electrical demands of the Taurus fan -- I leave to you the implications as regards the
possible limitations of an older and stock SWB Jeep charging system.
PS-2: I checked -- that diode is not listed on Radio Shack Dot Com.
