Need brake help!!!

:???: I bought an 89 Cherokee that came with Abs and it has no breaks (pedal went to the floor) I took all the ABS stuff out and put in new master cylinder, booster, etc for power brakes and the pedal still goes to the floor. Any ideas on what I'm doing wrong? Can you even swap the ABS for power brakes? Really don't want to put ABS stuff back in if master cylinder is bad, was quoted $400+ to have it rebuilt. Any suggestions would be appreciated, or if anyone has a 89 with a bad motor or transmission for sale.....then all I'd need is a stick of dynamite for this one. :bomb:

I'm not 100% sure on the ABS conversion, except I know that a lot of people do it, because the early system is just an accident waiting to happen. Have you bled the brakes? Air in the system will compress, fluid will not, so if you have air, you're gonna be putting your foot to the floor...

Just a suggestion, that's all I've got to offer on the matter, I'm afraid :)

I'll agree with Saurian, make sure you've thoroughly bled the brakes.......and there's been mention on here of bench bleeding the MC, and, though I've never personally done that, makes perfect sense to me. Brake systems are pretty simple - all hydraulic (fluid, not air!!!!). And ABS sucks, in my opinion. If you can get rid of that, do it.
