My new XJ

I bought a 99' Cherokee last Monday. It's my first XJ. I looked at over 30 junk Cherokees in the last month before I found this jem. It's got 53,000 original old man driven miles, rides like new, still has that new car smell. I stole this truck for $5,000 cash. We took it to PA, NY over the weekend and it performed flawlessly. I love my new XJ. It's the first AMC 6 cylinder I've had since my 80' AMC Eagle wagon with a 258. Nothing beats a 4.0L....Now I have 3 YJ's, and 1 XJ. 8)

very nice, you got an awesome deal on that. you could turn around and sell it tomorrow for $3000 profit.

...or I can drive it for a few years and sell it for what I paid. I think this one is a keeper though. It's hard to find a "good" XJ Cherokee. Every one I looked at was either wrecked and repaired, rotten, had a ton of miles, beat to death etc. I drove all over to find a good one. This one was 10 miles away from where I live. The guy I bought it from took good care of it with regular maintenance and oil changes. It needs new tires, maybe a set of brake pads, otherwise it's an awesome machine. I'd like to add a 2" suspension lift, some factory 15" by 8" aluminum wheels, and a factory CD/Tape Radio. I don't want anything radical right now, just a good road vehicle with some minor mods.

If anyone on the board has some nice factory aluminum wheels and/or a factory cd/tape to sell let me know.

yeah i def. wouldn't sell it either, but you could. why go with a stock replacement radio? pick up an aftermarket cd player they're like 100 bucks...

Dang, that's a sharp lookin' buggy!! Good job!! (So, how long before we hear reports of them finding the old man's body in a shallow grave in a secluded wooded area by a river?)

The Cherokee got a new set of shoes and aluminum wheels yesterday. It still could use new shocks, but it rides way better now. I got Goodyear Wrangler tires mounted & balanced w/lifetime road hazzard warranty for $300 out the door.

Nice looking rig.
Are you planning on replacing the stock shocks later or just waiting for the shocks that come with that 3.5" lift kit?8)

Nice deal, I got the exact same thing (235/75/15's) for $275 including mount & balance, free rotations every 6000 miles, and free puncture/flat repair. Tires were on sale for $50 each at walmart... looks good man!

Right now I'm using the Cherokee as a road trip machine, so I'm going to buy regular shocks for now. When I finally put the lift on I plan on having a spare trans/transfer case with a "good" set of slip yoke eliminators, not the cheap hack and tap ones with splines & shafts that shear/break off. Plus I want to make my own heavy duty driveshafts, which I've done successfully in the past. Don't want any issues. This XJ is a still a virgin, I don't wanna break the hymen just yet LOL!

That's were I got my tires at. I searched the net and they had the best deal. The nice part is that WalMart is at the end on my street, so I don't have to go far if I have problems with the tires.

Thanks for all of the +++ comments guys....

I wanted to comment on your comment, I about fell out of my chair laughing at that one, LOL! The guy I got it from is loaded. He owns his own company, and is not short on cash by any means. He told me he wanted to buy a new Hemi powered Grand Cherokee, and he probably will. He buys a new car every 2 years. Must be nice,...I plan on having my Cherokee for at least the next 10years,....I hope.

...He did have a 5.9 powered 02' Grand Cherokee there when I went to look at the XJ. I wouldn't be surprised if that truck goes up for sale soon....

Hey if they want $5000 for that one too call me. I want a more comfy ride for wife and kid since my XJ with manual windows/ locks and non-workign A/C is rough on them. I would have to give it a minor lift for the beach.
