I am in the process of getting a new muffler for my TJ. One problem. I cant get the dang stock one off! I have sawzalled the tailpipe off the old muffler so the hangers arent keeping it there and i removed 1 bolt from in front of the muffler. Is there a screw or bolt or (please say no) weld somewhere that i am missing? I have tried soaking it in WD-40 a few times and after getting mad at it i deliberatly caught it on fire. Although amusing it didnt get the blastd thing off. :!: I get my license in about 20 days and i need to get the old one off and the new one off by the 6th of September. Any imput would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

It should just come out now make sure all the hangers are out ....:)

it was stuck between the muffler and the cat. I heard something about a factory weld being there so i just hacked it off. Now another problem. I got a cherry bomb muffler for 20$ i dont know how to put it on! It is a wniversal 24 inch long with a 2" input and 2" output. Should o give in and weld it or is there some jeepers secret bolt on method im in the dark about?

well i have never welded before but i think thats the way im going to go. Any fuel lines or anything around there i should watch out for?

haha... i welded a shock mount RIGHT next to a fuel line a few times.... not smart.. but had to get done

Here is a dose of common sence! Just get under ther and look! spend an hour or so, touch everything under the jeep. see where it all starts and ends and why it is where it is and what could be done to make it ez better or more serviceable. The jeep as great as it is is still man made by folks that are real smart but trained to be good at being stupid. There are thing on there taht make no sence at all and can be improved upon over and over, that is why we have mods of every kind. Now by doing this you have answered so many question for your self that you will not believe. You will know where your fule lines are break lines are exaust is routed drive line parts and actions. There will be an awakening in the mind as to how to do trail repairs and soon you will be the man to ask about your modle of jeep. Do the same with the electrial and engin compartment and dash and ect...... I am not looking down just going through the same thing right now with the CJ. SO different from my ol YJ. Good luck and know I am there with you on a different beast learning the hard way. But dont stop asking questions cause that is the other best way to learn what you have going on under there. tug

i'm with you on that.... that is the first thing I did when I got it... i was intrigued by it, so i wanted to know everything i could about it... of course there are loads of things i don't yet know... but i've learned a lot from just being nosy... and that has helped my MANY MANY times while stuck in situations
