Motor swap

Well i haven't made a post in awhile, but my last one was about an engine noise, well that "noise" was a busted piston and yesterday it bit the dust, locked up. So i'm in the process of swapping a 4.0 from a GC into my wrangler, but i'm rebuilding the 4.0 out of the GC. Figured id post pics and updates and what not.

There sits my new motor ready to come out.

Motors out, now to take the auto trans off then rebuild, then put my manual trans on there (who needs an automatic in a jeep?)

Looking good! Hope everything goes smoothly.

1st: who knew that a few bolts held the front end on.

2nd: This is what quaker state oil does to your motor.

Questions here. Was you able to get the passenger seat to fold and tumble forward with the GC seats, and didn't they come as an electric option too? like heated hemorrhoid cookers?

No. But there's a leaver under the seat that raises it up. Ill attach a pic. And Nah this is just the standard seat. No power.

Its still easy to get in the back.

This was the spark plug in the cylinder that the piston cracked in. Bad news is there's water in the oil. Luckily I have a new motor. For 260k I think the motor held up good

the 4.0 has the curved valve cover between the bolts? uh oh, i wonder which head is on my engine now? i wonder if i really have a full 4.0 instead of just the 4.0 block?

I've noticed a few differences between the wrangler 4.0 and the cherroke 4.0. like the oil filter is sideways on the cherroke and the wrangler is straight down, the disturbitor and oil sending unit plugs were totally different.

Well i finally got it in, and put back together. Done put 65 miles on it, and seems to be running great, ive just gotta get used to the new clutch.

i found that out since my block was from a 99 cherokee and none of the gauges worked when i bought this jeep, hahaha

Did you end up sleaving the cracked cylinder?

also looking at the head, that is not from a specific type of oil, thats from one type of oil that was left in the motor for WAY too long.

Looks good.
