Motor Swap

I have a (pretty stock) 1994 Jeep Wrangler with the 2.5l and want to get a bigger engine. I might be able to get my hands on a 1998 Jeep Grand Cherokee Limited fairly cheap. I was thinking of swapping the motors. I want to get the expert opinions from fellow Jeepers. Is this a good swap? Where do I start? Should I get someone to do it for me? Should I do it myself?

You should read up on Novak and Advanced Adapters websites regarding swaps. They both are well versed in common (and odd) Jeep swaps. Usually the motor you happen to have available isn't ideal and ends up costing more in Adapters, time, doctor bills from punching stuff, and unforeseen costs than going with a tried and true option.

I'm in the middle of swapping a '00 tj 4.0 & ax15 into my cj7.... If I could to it again I'd stick with the 4.2 or go to a sbc and have been done long ago.

Go for it if it's the v8. don't waste your time on the 4.0L engine as it will be just another run of the mill 4.0L with a hacked up install.

I did a 2001 5.9 L dodge ram2500 swap into my 97 TJ
Jeep/Dodge all Sony guts! j/k
they are very similar in their electronics interfacing to the dash (GUI for you computer geeks)
Just hit up the dudes at painless wiring.... they can whip you up a harness and have to your door in a week to 10 days PLUG and PLAY! (they label every wire as if you were a 5 year old) Then all you'll need is to tune it with your laptop....you can download the program on-line cheap!
they even have an app for your 3G or 4G phone and a cable to plug straight into your OBDII port and expert tuners can tune your ride from your phone remotely HIGH F"N TECH BABY!!!
so relax brother...you do have options for tech support....you'll be fine!

What about a chevy 350 out of a 1984 K10? Th350 transmission?

84 is OBDI.... easily bypassed. Piece of cake! Just need the motor mount brackets from anyone who makes a good quality set...or you can fab them up yourself if you're good with cardboard templates tracing them onto 1/4 inch plate and cutting them out and welding them together.... placement is very important...don't want motor too far back into firewall or too far forward into fan...
