MOAB Run

Me and some of my fellow gluttons for punishment have decided to thoroughly **** our wives off and go to Moab in September instead of whatever mindless dribble they had planned for us to do. My company has hired a guide to show us around for the story. I wanted to extend the invitation for a few to join our happy little caravan. Each vehicle is $50.00 per day additional for the guide and we want to keep it down to no more than 7 vehicles total. Please also bear in mind that one spot is for the film crew and equipment, and two other slots are filled with some friends, so that leaves 3 spots for any who are interested. The dates are the 28,29,30, and 1st with overnight camping the night of the 29th. The guide usually charges $260 a day so it is a pretty good deal.

Darn Gone you should had offered the job to me first...lol could have taken you on any trail you wanted to go on...from 2.5's all the way to 5+'s.

Wow, I didn't think about the fact that lots of fellas on the board are probably real familiar with Moab and could have helped as guides:redface: . The guide we contracted with is named Dan Mick. Hopefully he will be as much fun. You're welcome to join us though if ya like!

Actually you picked the very best.
For those of you who don't know who Dan Mick is...
Dan Mick was the original Moab Jeeper. 90% of the trails were mapped by this man. Micky's hot tub was named after him, also because he was the first to navigate this hot tub.

I had the pleasure of meeting Mr.Mick last year on Hells Revenge trail. He and the occupant of his jeep watched as I guided my partner in his XJ up the obstacle called the escalator. After that we followed him through Tip over challenge and he showed me the Ruble Trouble part of the trail that I never had been on.

Well, I have to say, I might trade all the desert sand in the world for some good old Alabama clay bogs now and then. Really miss that red mess sometimes.

It's red dust right now. A few more weeks of this drought and it will be like your current location.
Corrupt,
If you will take the time off next year and tow our junk out to Moab, I'll go. I have a Chevy 3500 dually with a 32' gooseneck that are good to go. We'll split fuel. I'll fly out and meet you.
Maybe we could get Utah_Jeepster to guide us for beer money.

seems like every off road show I watch is about Moab these days. I guess I'm just going to have to pack up and go. I wanted to wait until my son was old enough to go. I don't think I can wait until 2010.

So, Gone, what exactly do you do for a living? What is the deal with taking a film crew along? Sounds interesting, but there's no way I could make it this year. My ultimate goal before I die is to run the Rubicon. I've dreamed about that since I was just a young tyke and saw a video about it somewhere. I probably saw it at my Uncle Harold's house in Tucson. He and my other uncle Duane were very avid 4-wheelers from the late 60's until '79 when Duane died from a brain tumor. Harold still goes out and explores old trails and ghost towns in the mountains around Tucson, but I know he doesn't enjoy it near as much without Duane. Duane had a '64 Jeep, and Harold had a late '50s or early '60s model Toyota Land Cruiser. Duane's oldest son got the Jeep when his dad died, and later sold it (what an idiot). His brother Doug wanted that Jeep so bad that he didn't talk to Roger for several years after he sold it, mostly for sentimental reasons. A few years ago, Harold gave Doug the Toyota, and Doug is in the process of restoring it now. I can remember taking family trips with all of them up into the mountains. The first one I remember was when I was about 6 years old. The one thing that still stands out in my memory, and is what lead me to be such a rabid 4-wheeler, is going up a steep dry creek bed and getting the Jeep high centered. Duane just casually got out, started jacking up the Jeep and stacking rocks under the tires till we got moving again. At the time, I thought that was so cool that he became my hero. Sure do miss him.......

I work for a publishing company. It's a media conglomerate that owns several hundred print publications, online pubications and television stations. I oversee the advertising and marketing departments for the western US. One of these mags is doing a end of summer series and I/we decided to include an article on Moab this year (a little self serving here I know).

Now if I can just figure out how to expense my new winch...;)

Any time Red... and beer is cheep...lol.
To be in fact if your heading out this way I would love to meet you all down in Moab...its only 6 hour drive for me, 220 miles south from my front door.

Sparky: When your ready I will guild you on the Rubicon, we can either do the traditional three day run from Georgetown or start at Loon Lake for the two day run. 11 hours and 637 miles from my front door. Try planning on July of 07, thats when we are going to run it again.

I usually go down labor day weekend with my buds to Moab ,but a couple of them weren't going due to family engagements so I am going down the next weekend and guiding a group from a different board that I chat on.8th through the 11th, we have people comming all the way from the east coast.

Kewl. Can I ask what magazine it's for, or is that private info?

I work for the Cox Media Group, so the article will probably be in several of the mags. It was specifically tabled for a quarterly Truck Trader pub we are starting to put out. We are in the final stages of acquiring all the Trader magazines, auto trader truck trader etc. so you will be seeing a slightly different face on these pubs in the future. The idea is to throw some content in with all the classifieds. We will see how it goes, at least I get to wheel Moab on the company!!8)
