Minimum AWG for wiring a pair of 100w lights

Hi gang,
I pulled from the bottom of my roll away a pair of nos but non descript fog lights. They are 100w H2 units that pull about 8.5 amps and pre wired with 16 gauge wire pigtails. My question; Wiring this pair of light to one switch. Is 14 gauge wire satisfactory? I've got a load of 14 gauge but minimal everthing else, and I think it'll be fine for up to a 14 foot run, unless the data so far is inaccurate. So far research on the web yields tmi about non related elcetrical.

Thanks and a lift of the lynch lid for any responses.

14 gauge should be sufficient if they were supplied with 16 gauge pigtails to begin with however, i would make sure you run them on a relay to keep the load light on the switch and the wires going to the switch. On my header light bar, each one of the lamps are retrofitted with a 16million candlepower aircraft landing lamps. I had to run each one with a relay and a central hub with a circuit protected air switch on the dash. This ultimately is an overkill but im rest assured that non of the circuits gets hot especially on long term use of the lamps. They are switched on as a pair starting from the outside pair going to the pair in the center.

Yeppirs both sets I added relays to. I found it hard to believe that no one around this town knew what a relay socket/pigtail was  Even calling NAPA yielded no result......until I went down there and showed them where they were stocked.
