Manually put into 4x4?

I have a 1984 Jeep J10 and their is a vacume leak.... Im trying to figure out if i can craw up under the truck and put it in 4x4 by hand? Can anyone help me?

I had a 84 cherokee. The vacumn hose from the front axle selenoid came off somewhere near the carb. I believe it was a red hose (been 20 years). It has to be hooked up to work. The Jeep ran like crap too, so I always knew when the hose was off.

The middle vacuum line at the front axle disconnect motor is clogged with dirt I cleans it out not it will engage but not disengage also when I pulled the hose their was antifreeze drippin out?
