what could possibly trigger the maint req'd light? the enging sounds like it is running fine. i wanted to try to narrow the problem down (harder than it sounds, i know). but i figure its gotta be something thats monitored electronically. so i think like O2 sensor and stuff along the lines of that.

its at about 84kmi.....are there any expected failures at this point in time? like belts or gaskets?

thanks,
trav

I have heard before about the light comming on at a certain mileage. I thought that was at 85,000. Autozone will check the codes for free if you run it down there.

The "maint req'd" light is a timed light, meaning it does come on after a certain mileage. The "check engine soon" light is not and comes on when there is a problem. You can pull the maint req'd bulb right out of the dash to solve this problem. It will never come on again! I checked around when mine came on a few months ago and it is not important.

help: winch or lift

The maint required light is for the oxygen sensor. It normaly comes on at 50k miles. Autozone has the proceedures on resetting this. I just ignored the light for another 140k. Bulb wouldn't burn out and I was too lazy to take the bulb out. Engine died but the bulb shines on.

My jeep came with a circle of black tape covering the light. I didn't even notice it until tonight. I pulled the tape off and sure enough, it was lit up. Needless to say, I put the tape back.

it's approx 80K or so. Black tape worked pretty well for me. O2 sensors are pretty cheap and easy to replace, but that #%&@ light!!!!!!!

I've heard it's a timed light and triggers in the low 80K range. Doesn't necessarily indicate a problem, but needs to be hooked up to clear it.

Probably a stupid o2 sensor! my YJ never came on and I have 110K ?
