ok so in the next month or so i will be buying a winch....I have the warn rock crawler bumper and the little grill bar.....my question is what kind of winch should i get that i can mount on there?? im not looking to spend 1300 but have seen some warns for abou 6-700.....is warn a good brand, thats really the only ones i have been looking at??

Warn is a great brand. Ramsey is a good brand as well and tends to be a little cheaper. Mile Marker also is a good brand, they have great hydraulic winches if you're so inclined. You'll probably want to stick with 8000 lbs or greater.

cool thats one of the ones i was looking at....do i need to get a second battery setup for a winch?? and how tough are they to wire??

also what is the difference between Hawse and roller winch's???
I have been looking at the M8000 and am pretty sure that is what i want, but the roller is 50 bucks more....why??

the rollers let the winch cable roll back into the winch with out too much resistance or what i call scrapage, the hawse guide the cable in but the cable rubs against the hawse and tends to wear after a while. plus the rollers look cool

Where'd everyone go?

What do you all think about the "New" MileMarker Electric Winch? I read an article on 4WD mag (I think) saying it is pretty good I beleive it is an 8,000 lbs winch. Price tag is a very nice $400 +-.

haven't really looked at any other winches besides warn, i'll have to check that one out.....anyone use or hear of that one before??

by the way, where in TX are you K K PSI??

Ramsey has a lot of problems with there winches. You can go directly to ramsey and buy factory reconditioned winches off there site. I have sent back 2 from our shop. The mile marker electric winches have a 1.8 hp motor they draw more power then the warn winches and the line speed under load is slow. Overall though we have had many people that have been happy witht he winch. If you are thinking about going with the mile marker winch look in harbor freight they have a fey winch that they sell for about 300 and it is the same winch. For the money and the value I went with the warn m8000i. You don't ussually see this one advertised but it comes with an extra 20 ft of cable and the roller. The winch cost an extra $50. Wiring the winch is easy and with the disconnected solinod you can by longer wires and and run them under your hood for a clean mount and keeps the box out of the mud.

just my 2 cents

I just modified my stock YJ battery tray to hold a longer Marine Deep Cycle Starting battery. Next I'll upgrade from the stock 70A alternator to a 136A unti that will bolt right in, about $40 from the junkyards. Great upgrade if you have a NipponDenso alternator. With the help of the hand throttle, the battery will be able to keep up.

cool, I'm pretty sure I'm going to get the warn M8000 with the roller...but there is much other stuff i need before that, like sye and cv and tire carrier(got the bumper today) man no one told me that I would go broke owning a jeep....I think I spend to much money on this car....but every time i get a shipment its like christmas all over again, can't wait for my lights to come in

Hello Nymisus, I'm currently located in South Texas near Corpus Christi ( Live in Kingsville). My parents live in San Antonio, so one of these days we should go out on a trail. Austin has a lot of nice trails we we can ride. Heck, I'm sure SA has some good places as well. -Al
