I bought an 'over the roof' rack that fits on my YJ. It's called a Congo Cage by Kargo Master. I found it on the internet for $240, free shipping. I think I saw it for $200 somewhere about a month ago, oh well. Anyway, it all depends on what you want to carry. I need to be able to tote my 9'6" surfboard to the beach and this rack does it well. You can also buy attachments for it at $40 to fit Yakima bars, or get KargoMaster's kit for $150 which includes the mounts and 2 bars. Or, you can mount a basket up top for lights, shovel/axe, spare tire, and other odds and ends. The main reason I bought it was because I could remove my softtop with out affecting my rack. However, I believe that for TJ's, the rack has to be unscrewed in the front and it has hinges that tilt in the back so TJ's can get their top down. That would suck to do that everytime, but I guess it would be that way with any Rack and a TJ. The biggest seller was that it could carry the largest payload... are you ready for this... 500 lbs. !! That's a lot of weight.

I agree with hiC on the bang for the buck. My buddy just purchased the same rack. The only concern is that 500lbs. on top of a Jeep could make it a little more unstable. My personal choice is the wilderness rack by Garvin Industries. Found it for a little under $500, which is the ball park figure after all the accessories for the other rack systems are acquired. It's a cage design, holds 300lb capacity, light mounting holes, and rotates to expiate top removal. Personally it also takes first in aestetics. On the other hand...if your cutting/welding skills are a percentage as good as some of the talented hands that grace this website, you could probably fabricate one for less than half of the retail price.[addsig]

Thanks for the replys. I been searching and the wilderness seems to be the best option to me. Natty, where did you found this rack for $500? Thanks...[addsig]

Check out Quadratec...the cool thing about those folks is that depending on who you get on the phone, you can negotiate a little bit. Not like buying a house or a car, you might get $20-$40 off or free shipping or something like that. My brother has the same rack on his '99 Sahara...complements galore everywhere he goes. We've fit two kayaks, camping gear for days, and even some firewood on that thing. It really frees up the limited space inside for other important items...ie. coolers, bottles, and 12pks. (soda of course...for mixers). Good luck.[addsig]

check out the roof rack at www.elnino.worldoversea.com

his buddies built it for him at their off road shop. Not sure

about any pricing but it looks great, plus your buying it

from the builder and not a distributer so probably isnt

extremely high.[addsig]
