my jeep f/s

I'm lookin to lift my 94 cherokee country. It's a standard.

I was wondering what all I'd need to do to it past the initial lifting. I heard I had to drop some stuff like my transmission and transfer case. I wanna do this all my own... mainly cause I'm a poor 19 year old, and can't afford to have a place do it for me. :?

Any of you guy's infinite Jeep insight would kick butt, Thanks guys.

It depends on how high you want to go... Look around at different lift kits out there. The sites that sell them should tell you if you need brake line extensions, transfer case drop, SYE, etc. I hear rustysoffroad.com is good for XJs. Have fun with the search. Once you find a kit/height you think you like, come back here to see what experience people have with it. Good luck.

Air intake snorkel for 95 XJ sport

You don't have to drop the transmission or gearbox unless you pass 4" lift I believe...mine has a 3.5" on 31 x 10.50's, and it does great off road and on road too. (mine's a 95 sport 5spd).

there's the best place (in my opinion) to find a lift for your cherokee at a good price. i have the 3" spring pack kit on mine and love it. all you need with 3" or less is a simple t-case drop kit (and that's only really for 97+ models... although it still wouldn't be a bad idea for a 94). there's no need to go any higher than about 3-4" unless you are really serious about off-roading and have atleast a thousand bucks to drop on upgrades. i'm guessing you still have stock tire/rim setups too... so you'll want to atleast get new tires with a lift, and that won't be cheap either ($400-500). good luck!

Better Gas Mileage

Ok, I've decided to go with a 3" lift, the one at Rustyoffroads looks good, but I'm gonna look around a bit. I want 31's on it, so what size rims am I gonna need on this?

I don't suck as much as it looks, I'm just used to doin this stuff stock, and now I wanna upgrade and hit harder terrain.

Hi,

Good choice to do a 3" lift. Anything above 3" usually requires lots of parts being modified or replaced (front-end components, control arms, driveshafts, brake lines, etc...)

Also be sure and buy the lift kit with FULL new rear leaf springs (NOT the add-a-leafs.) Doing so is better because you won't risk having more leaf spring sagging in the future and it just makes sense because you'll have everything taken apart anyways.

Now the real fun is trying to compress the front coil springs

Good Luck

31's use the standard 15 inch rims that are found on cherokees
just make sure that the tires you get are made for 15 inch rims(its pretty standard)

so whats the diff between what Rusty's lists as Spring Kit, Leaf Kit, and add-a-leaf kit? Im confused. That would suck if you had too spend 500 then 400 for just front and back...but I assume these kits are combo's. Explain.

What about detachable swaybars? Worth it for a mildly lifted Cherokee?

if you look again at the site... you'll see that for just about every size lift (3", 4.5", etc.) they offer a spring pack kit, an add-a-leaf kit, and a "complete kit" (at the bottom of the list). the spring pack kits include front coils, full rear spring packs, and 4 shock absorbers. the AAL's are exactly the same except they only have a single leaf for the rear instead of the complete leaf pack (you just had the single leaf to your stock pack). the complete kits are the spring pack kits along with tires and rims. so yes... the kits are combos: any kit you buy will be everything you need to lift front and back to the specified height (although AAL's are never the way to go). as far as swaybar discos... they are worth it on any vehicle, even stock, and would do great on a lifted vehicle.
