Lift Going On Next Week!

Yeah i know what you mean. I'm tryin to get all this done before i move out and have to pay everything for myself and save some money for when i move out and have to pay for everything myself.

That reminds me of a Jeep I used to know.

Looks great Sparky. It will settle a bit and the ride will get smoother. Taking that rear trackbar off, disconnecting the swaybar and twisting that suspension up real good will help speed up the process. If it seems real tight you might want to make sure he didn't over-torque the shackle bolts.

Last thing - In the instructions for that lift kit BDS recommends loosening the two nuts under the transfer case skid, then to "drive it gently" around the block, then re-tighten. I didn't do it at first, but had a slight driveline vibration. After doing that procedure it was gone. They state that it allows the TC to adjust to the new driveline angle. Makes sense and I can verify it works. If the guy didn't do it, it'll take ya 15 minutes.

Enjoy it. Feels like a whole new Jeep, don't it?

There wasn't any vibe at all. Problem is, I don't know what "too stiff" is on this (keep it clean, boys). He did say I should bring it back in within 30 days to have everything checked out and snugged up. I'm guessing that since this guy has done a few million lifts on Jeeps, he prolly did everything right the first time.;)

He said as far as the alignment goes, if I'm not having any issues, don't worry about it. Usually there isn't much problem when doing a spring lift, I guess. I'll still take it in for one, though. He also offered to do my brakes while he had it off the ground, as the rotors are getting pretty grooved. I've already got someone lined up to do that, so I declined.

One question: Is there any way to get the steering wheel straight again? Not that it's a big issue, just curious. The way it sits now, it's more comfortable for me, as I like to drive with my hand resting on the very bottom, and with the middle "spoke" in the way, I can't get comfy on the wheel. Anywho, it's more aesthetics than anything.

Dang. I guess your YJ reall IS a Jeep after all! :p

Looks good Sparky!

BTW,

Sparky, you need a new sig pic now! If you want, I'll re-do it with the new lift. Just send me pics.

Cool....it's supposed to get cold this weekend...down to 88 degrees on Saturday  , so I'll get it disconnected and take off the rear track bar and get some poser shots for you to play with.;)

An alignment will cure that, and you really should get one. Did you get a drop pitman arm with it? You may not have any "issues" until your tires start wearing unevenly.

the alignment will not necessarily straighten the steering wheel, the name of the part escapes me at this moment, but you'd need to adjust something else to get the steering wheel straight. i mean, if you got it aligned, i'd hope that they would have the wheel straight for you, but if you think about it, you could have a perfectly aligned vehicle with the steering wheel off-center, so it isn't necessarily the alignment.

It's the drag link. A proper alignment would include adjusting the drag link in order to straighten the steering wheel, would it not?

Yeah, the kit came with a drop pitman arm. I did notice last night on the way home from work that it pulls ever so slightly to the right while driving, and a bit more when under heavy breaking.

Ya, I'd just get an alignment...sounds like that's the problem. Just be sure to mention your steering wheel is off center when you're in there and they should fix it at the same time. Alignments shouldn't be over $40-50...and are definatly worth it when you consider tire wear and safety.

yep, drag link TC, thanks, i couldnt think of it for some reason, but yeah sparky, you could adjust the draglink and straighten the wheel.

Cool, thanks guys.

I was gonna go get some pics this weekend, but I'm too sick. I took the day off to get a nerve root block in my neck, but when I showed up at the doc's office, they said they couldn't do it because I was running a temp. So, I went to my PCP and found I have a very nasty sinus infection and was put on antibiotics and steroids. That sucks....it's 84 degrees at a quarter to 3 in the afternoon--that's 25 degrees cooler than it was this time yesterday!! And tomorrow is supposed to be cooler yet!! Damn the luck!

Well, I just couldn't handle laying in bed all day, knowing my Jeep wanted to play. However, I still don't feel like going anywhere and doing anything, so I just played in the drive with a couple of ramps. I disconnected the sway bar and torqued the suspension the best I could with what I had:

I forgot to get a shot from the rear. Have to do that another day. I crawled underneath it to see about taking off the rear track bar, but it was torqued down pretty dang tight, and I don't have the strength to break it loose with a little ole socket wrench. I'll have to see if my son can get it broke loose for me. The disco's were really easy to use, both taking them apart and putting them back together. Still much better than the JKS set I tried. Sure am glad I got them instead of the JKS. I'd recommend them to anyone. Well, anyone but Mingez....he'd prolly break a nail undoing them, or get a blood blister on his precious fingers....

Dang I wanna go play out at the lake....just wish I didn't feel so crappy.:(

While I was under there, I noticed a gas leak, though. I'd been smelling gas for quite a long time, but it never showed any spots on the garage floor or driveway. I just figured it was venting fumes out the cap. It was right in front of the tank where the steel line hooks up to a rubber line. A hose clamp had worked loose, and was seeping a little bit. Tightened it up and it quit. The hose is pretty weather checked and cracked....couldn't tell where it went, just that it disappeared between the tank and the bottom of the body. I'd like to get in there and replace it, but again, don't have the energy.

Last night before I parked the Jeep back in the garage, I gave the bolts on the rear track bar a shot of PB blaster. This morning, I was finally able to get them to come off, and got the track bar removed.8) So, with that out of the way, I was able to go wheeling at the lake and get some poser shots that I posted in this thread.
