KC Daylighters

Operation 4x4

New member
Hello all,
I recently bought some daylighters (today) with the brackets for the windshield mount. I installed the brackets no problem (thank god for pre set holes!). Now here comes the tough stuff (so i think). I am familiar with KC wiring and such and have thrown the ground and power wires for the KC switch. Here i have two problems. 1. My anttena is in the way of one of the daylighters and i dont know how to alter and such. 2. How the hell do i route the wires for the daylighters? I really am clueless as to how to wire them.

Any suggestions and advice would be appreciated.

Thanks,
Chris

i just did that myself a couple weeks ago!i bent mine slightly to match the angle of the windshield, and it works great!i put a section of vacuum tubing on the bottom half just in case it bounces so it won't beat up my light!it is dark right now-will take pics and post them tomorrow!

p.s.-i forgot to mention the wires-look at my recent posts, this was covered by some fellow jeepers and me a couple weeks back!i removed the wiper cowling and drilled holes below the screws to pass wires through!it looks nice-will send you some pics on tuesday!

Thanks goldtj,
Now the other problem is what i cant figure out. My Anttenna is in the way of the daylighter. Any suggestions?

Thanks,
Chris

There was a post some days ago with the routing, and you can check it for images, but basically, there are 2 options; making a hole and using a gromet to run the wires into the cab, or running them under the cowl seal (and if you go this route, I recommend you route the wires to the sides, as if you route them from the front, water will leak in when driving in the rain).

Personally, I think the hole looks more finished, and I went that route when I relocated mine to the hood, but its up to you and what you want to do...

As for the antenna, I tilted mine a bit forward, but mine is a YJ, so it's a different setup.

Yah, I thought about slanting mine back to go with the windhield but don't know how to do it.

I think I am going to go with the drilling the hole, looks alot more professional and I love my handy dandy drill ha. :D

In my case, I could just rotate the mount, but I think yours has the triangular mount, right? Mine was the rounded one with just 1 screw holding it in (it's not even a Jeep antenna; it's a generig one), so rotating it was as easy as grabing it and moving it...

Nah its not the triangular mount its actually round. But I already figured it out; I used my vise grips and just twisted it a little. Now it clears fine :D. Thanks for all the help

Here are some pics of mine-i am not 100% on this yet,so don't slam me on tidyness just yet!i am outside working on this in spurts as weather allows, but these pics should help!i took tons of pics, not sure how many can be posted,if you like,e-mail me for more!i placed relays(temporarily)above ecm behind battery on passenger side.i drilled a hole to left of huge ground bolt in center,to pass wires from windshield cowl to engine bay,and drilled slightly above/behind heater blower box in passenger footwell area to get inside the tub.again, this will be straightened up some, with grommets done better, and holes sealed up with silicone caulk when i get another decent day!just thought you might benefit from these pics!

p.s.-to adjust the antenna, just carefully grab it with your left hand at the lower base, then just bend it with your right hand!sounds cheesy, but it worked for me!for good measure,i slid vacuum tubing on the lower part so it won't slap around and beat up the light!eventually i will do a cb style whip in the rear and ditch this one.they do sell short rubber antennas, but they really don't work very well,so i ain't gonna go there!standard antenna length should be 31",or reception suffers!hopefully the pics will explain it!i originally covered the entire antenna in rubber tubing, but i created some kind of aerodynamic nightmare which resulted in the antenna flapping like crazy at highway speed!cutting it down to where it is now alleviated that problem!

Thanks for everyones help,
I got them done today, just lowered the windshield and ran the wires through there. Nice hoodmounts, dont like the reflection off the hood though.

i don't either-you might notice i used tractor lights instead of standard KC's-they work well, but are smaller(read that less vision obstruction),and also don't glare so much, but still shoot out some nice light!thinking about building a bridge across the two hood hinge mounts and mounting a total of 8 across there,as well as accomodating mounting of a hi-lift jack!i'm creative, and want to try it!

Goldtj,

I would just ad one more grommeth to the hole in the last pic to avoid shaffing the wires... Other than that, looks great!

yes, that was done temporarily and it was cold, and i was in a hurry!it will be disassembled and redone as soon as the weather breaks!i am going to do some 4 gauge wiring with power distribution blocks and all soon-i just had to get it going for now!will post some more pics when the final product is done!i am very anal, and did pro car audio systems for almost 20 years,so you can rest assured it will be 100%,and show-worthy when finished!i will seal all the holes with silicone,as well.just put that up to help a brother out and save him some time and grief!i don't have a garage, and i did that in the dark, holding a flashlight in my teeth in 28 degree weather!just had to make it shine!one warm Saturday, and it will be dialed in!
