Jeepers in VA (or those who have wheeled there)

I'm considering taking a trip down to Taskers Gap/Peters Mill Run to go wheeling in a couple weeks (Click here for more info). I grabbed the link above from a previous post here on the Z a while back but hadn't really looked into it. It's about a 2 and a half hour drive from where I'm at. Anyway, I called and talked to a ranger there earlier today and asked her a couple of questions, and it sounds good. I was just wondering if anybody here has ever been there and if anyone could comment on the difficulty of the trails. If you're looking at the trail map, I'm specifically asking about 433 (Peters Mill Run) and 553 (Taskers Gap). I asked the ranger that I spoke with and she said she had never personally been on the trails as she's "not into 4-wheeling", but from what she's seen and heard that they would be considered "difficult". The map seems to indicate that the above mentioned trails are "Easier". I tried to explain that I was in a Jeep and not an ATV but I'm not sure she understood me. Anyway, I'm just looking for some input from anyone who may have wheeled there before. Also, if anyone is interested in joining me, I haven't set a fixed date (only that it will have to be a Saturday), so we can probably work something out. Thanks in advance!

I've done Peter's Mill, probably 7 years ago. At that time, it was super easy - any two wheel truck could make it. It was a fun time, great for first time wheeling.

Jason, where do you live? Add yourself to the members map - http://www.jeepz.com/forum/vbgooglemapme.php

I'm in Baltimore (Well, ok, technically Timonium) MD. I just added myself to the map. Anyway, I was hoping it wouldn't be anything real hard as unless someone cares to join me I'll be by myself. I'd still like to check it out even if just for the scenery. Maybe if it's a nice easy trail it'd be a good place to break in my fiancee who's never been wheeling . I definitely want to hit this and Rausch Creek...and I'd love to go back to Paragon again, if they ever reopen. I also hear there are some trails out at Greenridge, but I've heard a few people say they're pretty difficult.

I have run those trails at Taskers Gap and Peters Mill. They are in fact pretty mild, but bad weather could change that in an instant.

Near Taskers Gap were some great trails for mudholes and river crossings, but no rocks to speak of if that's your desire. We met a group of Jeepers that called themseves "Team Trailblazer" and did some wheeling with them. They know were all these "unofficial" yet perfectly legal trails are. These are not trails you'd want to run alone and definitely not without proper recovery gear (towpoints, straps)

The taskers gap trail has an exit out to the highway that is sometimes gated. If open, leave that way then make a left on the highway. You'll see trail heads on the left in less than a mile.

Sorry to be so vague but that's all I remember. try www.teamtrailblazer.com for more info.

Thanks for the info TC. For the record, I prefer the mud bogs and hill climbs to rock crawling (no offense to those of you who love to crawl!).

Heck! What a shame!

And I'm only headed for Moab tomorrow...

No, I couldn't get somebody (a passenger) to go with me - my brother was out of town and the fiancee had to work. You're right though, it was a nice weekend. I'm trying to set something up soon, trying to see when my fiancee can get a weekend off. I'm trying to get her interested in wheeling ;).
