I drove down the street to the mini mart yesterday. When I got back in to drive home it wouldn't start. I tried several times and eventually the battery died. Anyone have ideas on how to trouble shoot? Its a '86 CJ-7, original straight 6 engine.
what sounds do you hear when you turn the ignition? if any. if none then you battery is more than likely dead and you'll prob need a new one. go get an optima red top.
try jumping your battery and while connected try to start it. that will tell you if it's your battery or not.
A common problem in the summer, when running a motor at operating temp then restarting shortly thereafter the headers (on my V8) will heat up enough to create an impedance within the starter. I wait a spell, have a beer and it starts right up.
